The Fountain

The Fountain ~ by James Russell Lowell

Since the beginning of time, humans have loved the sights and sounds of flowing water...watching waterfalls, water fountains, There’s something magical about watching water flowing from a certain height. Fountains bring elements of lively movement and soothing water sound hypnotizes us and will make you feel tranquil and happy. The constant sound of water flowing gently manages to soothe the most stressed out hearts. These are also to cut out the noise that emanates from the outside.

That is why when they see water fountains and get so excited, it simply means that water fountains surely gives delight to people. They want to get near it and check it out. Even adults do! Whenever I see a fountain I get excited like a kid!

So many poets  have written about The Fountain. But I like this sketch is one of the most favorable examples of English descent and American culture poet JAMES RUSSELL LOWELL. His Poetry makes men feel, rather than understand and it suggests thoughts and emotions not expressed in words. I love his expressions about The Fountain; I too feel that Let my heart be ceaseless content, Fresh, changeful, constant, Upward, like thee!

Into the sunshine,
Full of the light,
Leaping and flashing
From morn till night!

Into the moonlight,
Whiter than snow,
Waving so flower-like
When the winds blow!

Into the starlight,
Rushing in spray,
Happy at midnight,
Happy by day!
Ever in motion,
Blithesome and cheery.
Still climbing heavenward,
Never a weary

Glad of all weathers,
Still seeming best,
Upward or downward,
Motion thy rest;--

Full of a nature
Nothing can tame,
Changed every moment,
Ever the same;--

Ceaseless aspiring,
Ceaseless content,
Darkness or sunshine
Thy element;--

Glorious fountain!
Let my heart be
Fresh, changeful, constant,
Upward, like thee!
